Elle is a science super brain. Ask her any electricity question
and she can tell you the answer. Where there’s an energy leak
or a power guzzler, Elle is there to show you smart ways Turn
It Down! – the second T of Hydro Conservation.
It would be
smart for you to listen to what I’ve got to say about electricity
conservation. I know that there are times when you just can’t turn an
electrical device off.
Your parents wouldn’t be too happy if you unplugged the refrigerator
to turn it off. And don’t try turning off the electric furnace
in the winter time or you’ll be be wiping icicles from your
nose. But there are ways when you have to use electricity that you
can Turn It Down!
Consider These Ideas:
Instead
of
Try
Standing
in front of an open fridge when looking for a snack
Thinking
about what you want ahead of time and grabbing it quickly, then
closing the door.
Turning
down the air conditioning when you get
hot in the summer (it’s weird, but turning down
the temperature, cranks up the amount of
electricity you use!)
Using a
small floor fan to circulate the air
around the room. You WILL feel cooler.
Having
a long, hot bath with bubbles and water
up to your neck.
Having
a short, warm shower and using a bath scrunchy with shower gel
to give you lots of bubbles.
WASTING
WATER WASTES ELECTRICITY!
The biggest use of electricity in most communities
in Ontario is supplying water to a home or school, heating it and
then cleaning it.
