Conserving electricity
may seem like a big job for a kid, but really if we work together
it can be very easy. First let me show you how working together
can make a job easier. TRY THIS YOURSELF! Sit down on the floor with your knees
bent and your feet flat down.
Without touching the floor with your hands, try to stand up. IT'S NOT EASY, IS IT? Now grab a partner. Sit down on the floor
again in the same way, but this time with your back against the
back of your friend who is sitting the same way. Link your arms.
Now try standing up by pushing against each other. One,
Two, Three and you're up.Easy, wasn't it? FOR EVEN MORE FUN, TRY IT IN GROUPS
OF THREE OR FOUR.
At
home...
Close doors when going outside or coming inside when air conditioning
or heat is on.
Have short showers and shallow baths. It takes electricity to
pump water to your home and to heat it.
Close blinds and curtains in summer to keep the sun from heating
the
inside of your home.
Turn off lights, televisions, and computers when you are not in
the room using them.
Only run the dishwasher or clothes washing machine when you
have full loads.
At
school...
Make sure computer monitors are turned off when you leave a room.
Turn faucets off completely so water isn’t wasted.
Make sure the classroom light is turned off when your class leaves
even for a short time.
